I’ve read a couple posts on tumblr, from some of my favorite bloggers actually, about how the idea of a post being “triggering” is bunk and that they will refuse to use a “trigger warning” on their posts. I think this is actually stupid. Triggers are real, and they really do affect people in…

I acknowledge triggers as a real thing, but also recognize the misuse of the term triggers on Tumblr. I’ve actually got my own triggers, and avoid them. I do tag all my posts that do strike me as potentially triggering with the subject matter that I think could trigger someone. For instance, a tag about rape would get tagged “rape” by me. My reasoning is that people can blacklist posts with certain tags. Of course, this backfires when the people who misuse the term “triggering” go searching for tags like “rape” on Tumblr to find blogs that aren’t using the “Trigger warning” thing and berate them.

In fact, I’ve gotten quite a few people message me with something along the lines of:

You fucking asshole! Do you realize just how triggering that post you just made was for me! I track the rape tag, and saw your post, and oh my fucking god you insensitive white pig. Check your privelage next time, asswipe.

So, no, I don’t use the “trigger warning” method of warning people. I figure, if you are triggered by something, you should have that tag blacklisted with something like Tumblr Savior.
